Hello. I have two desktop folders that I cannot remove. I created the folders and downloaded items into them, but now cannot remove them. The programs (one a walls, one an exe.) are not showing up in add/remove programs, and i never did run them. Any freeware out there to zap em, or is there a manual way in which i can rid myself of them? thanks all.

This isn't a constant problem but since I had broadband installed, sometimes the browser doesnt work and I need to reboot to get it going. I downloaded Firefox and use this now instead of IE but neither browser will work at times. Sometimes the browser works but Outlook express wont send or receive mail and sometimes OE receives mail but wont send till I reboot. I cant find a constant theme other than it seems to happen after I have been online a while ( yet a few times. it happens straight away ). The ping test seems to say I am online and the modem lights indicate connected and when I check my usage account there dont appear to be interruptions. Its just frustrating hav…

Hello! My problem is that either in ccleaner or add/remove not all apps are displayed although they are installed. It happened about two weeks ago and programs installed after it happened are in the list and there is no problem in uninstalling them. Other I have to search for uninstaller or do it from the start menu. Is there any way to fix it? Thanks! ;)

I can't run online AV scans in safe mode because I can't get online. I boot in safe mode with networking, but when I try to dial up I get "Error: Please install modem". On the Control Panel the "Phone and Modem" icon is not even there. What's with that?

In my windows file in the C drive there is a folder $hf_mig$ with 31 files inside. I take these are windows updates? Also next to that folder are 45 uninstall files not in a folder, written in blue writing. Should these all be in a folder, and why are there 45 of these and only 31 updates?

I have just been looking around my computer (as you do) and looked at my results for cpu usage and pf usage. My cpu is virtually nil, but my pf usage is over 200. After looking in google I see there is some conflict over whether this should be of concern. My computer performs quite well and I still have half my memory free. I would be interested to hear what people on here think. windows xp sp2 amd athlon 64 processor 3000+ 512 ram nvidia fx5500 160 hard drive

I have been trying to get Luna Element 4 to work ever since it was first mentioned by Tarun on CCleaner forums. I have the UXTheme patch, which I have downloaded from various sources so far, but it always seem's to be the one that I have anyway. Below is the information that pops up when I hover over it: When I install Luna Element 4, and then try to apply it, the best I can get is Windows Classic view. In C:\Windows\Resources\Themes I now have the following: Should I delete some of these and then try again? I have searched the deviantart forum for help, but although I have noticed posts with the same problem as mine, there is not any help availa…

Saturday I noticed Windows auto-updates weren't downloading, the icon appeared and just disappeared again. Went to MS Update, couldn't download manually either. Update History showed this update had failed repeatedly since Tuesday, with error code 0x80246008. In their Newsgroup I found a lot of people had the same problem. The explanation was that uninstalling Norton had damaged or deleted a file crucial to the BITS service that downloads updates. I had used the Symantec Removal Utility to remove some leftover Norton files that wouldn't delete, back in mid-August, apparently that created the problem. There were some fixes offered, unfortunately they didn't work f…

Probably one of those questions everyone else knows the answer to. Yesterday did start >favorites>right click on the word and rename to favourites (the English spelling!!) but today when I turned on it had reverted back. Could anyone tell me how to make it permanent?

Does anybody know of a good website for describing which Windows Services should be running automatically, or started manually, or even disabled. I tweaked mine years ago, with the help of a magazine, but have since thrown the magazine away. I have been trying to network 2 computers together, without much success, and am thinking that perhaps I disabled a service that now needs to be started again. I'm probably clutching at straws, but I am running out of ideas. I came across a blog by Mark Russinovich, stating that Windows will operate with the minimum of services running, (although this didn't help me). See the blog here.
