Hi, I found this forum via Dial-a-fix (which I found when searching Kelly's Corner, if I remember correctly.) I downloaded the latest subscription of my Kaspersky AntiVirus but when trying to install it got the following message: Windows Installer Service could not be accessed..." I ran Dial-a-fix several time after the solutions on the Microsoft web site didn't work. A few days ago, I had downloaded SP3 reluctantly but it didn't install tho it did make a couple of changes on my computer. System restore wouldn't restore to the last restore point I set about a week ago. For the last two months I've had problems with my computer locking up and have been trying variou…

I have a machine running XP Pro 2002 SP2 that started going into stand-by by itself. Stand-by is turned off, and there is no pattern to it or one program running when it does it. I ran XP repair and thought it fixed it but it did not. It got so madding I formated drive C and did a full clean reinstall. Drive D & E were not touched. The new install did not fix it and it is doing the same thing. Anybody ran into this before?

Hey, all, I really hope someone here can help me with these issues: I tried to upgrade my Windows Installer and after I ran the exe file on Microsoft’s site, an error box appeared saying “Access is denied”. So I tried reinstalling the same Windows Installer I currently have (v3.2 I think). Anyway, same result. Then I installed dial-a-fix to fix whatever windows installer trouble I am having. Well, shortly after I ru dial-a-fix for MSI, I get “Event unable to invoke subscribers”. I’ve tried running dial-a-fix multiple times and still get this message. So now I just want to completely remove Windows Installer from my computer and freshly install the newest window…

I lost my keyboard and mouse Ps2 connectivity so had to switch to USBs. I've seen many a dead Ps2 socket over the years and intermitants as well. Is this usually a hardware of software problem, is there a simpler solution than re-installing windows?

My friend has a machine which reboots itself many times a day. Each time it comes up with a BSD and a different error code. That makes it very very hard to see a pattern on what causing the reboots. If it was the same error code or error codes linked to a commom item that would give some direction to the repair, but error codes going all different directions......... makes life not good... Anyone out there run into something like this??

Please forgive me if I have posted this in the wrong section. I recently had my pc repaired and when it was returned I was unable to log on a website. the repairer fixed this eventually. But I noticed on some websites (this one included) I have red crosses in boxes where I assume an image should be present. I think the repairer may have deleted something thou I'm not sure. Any help would be most apprieciated. Many thanks Bobbyi

Hello, I looked for specific MPC - "XP Pro - Polish" and I couldn't find it. Although that I found your forum and nice wiki page with the list of MPCs. Unfortunately this wiki page has not code which I looked for. I've got my MPC from another source, but I post it here - perhaps it will be useful for somebody. 76447 This MPC I found on CD available in MSDN. The same MPC is used in Windows XP Pro preinstalled on Lenovo R61i notebook.

Tried to burn a music CD today, have had no problems with this in the past. Nero (6) announced burning failed, with a list of numbers; I kept the log (attached). Tried again with a different disk, no luck. Again with a different write speed. Same problem. Opened device manager. Uninstalled the driver. Restarted Windows. Windows recognised the new hardware. Still no burn. Tried in Windows media player, rather than Nero, in case it's a program specific problem. No work. Music plays ok from a CD placed in the tray, it just doesn't appear to want to burn. The computer (and its CD player/burner) is about 3 years old. Any other checks I should run before taking it to the …

I recently had some virus problems which was trojan-downloaders and ever since then the genuine windows validation icon sits on the toolbar and says its unable to complete genuine windows validation. I bought windows from walmart so its not a copy. I cant figure out how to get it to work so I can validate my windows software. Also, when I go to control panel>system it says registered to: valued gateway client gateway VIRUS ALERT! the virus alert thing also showed up on my time stamp in the corner, I managed to remove it from there but I dont know how to change it on the registered information. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I'm here thanks to a suggestion (thanks to those involved) received from a member at another forum, where this problem was also posted. I use WMP11. For a time, now, maybe 2 or 3 weeks ago I first noticed it, when closing it, the GUI and any outward manifestation of its' running (eg: sound, if it was playing an audio file) disappears promptly, but the service continues for about 10 or 11 seconds in taskmanager. First realised this was happening when I closed it, then immediately commanded it to open another file, by selecting that file, and having WMP utterly fail to respond. Wait 10 seconds and try again, good as gold. There is a debug report log available if required…

Among the other issues I am still trying to deal with on my computer, I have ran Belarc Advisor and it states that I am missing Microsoft security hotfixes among other things. To use this site, you must be running Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or later. To upgrade to the latest version of the browser, go to the Internet Explorer Downloads website. I have been working on a project with on Laptop produced by an OEM. The first time I say this issue was with a Laptop running Windows Media Center 2005 on a Intel Core Duo System, Chipset Instel 945. After showing it to several techs worked with me on this they sent a second laptop running Vista with Core 2 7500 2.2, Chipset Intel 965. The issue came to light with the first laptop because the laptop using a samsung 9 volt battery burned out twice, and I had to have 3 DVD R/RW's relpaced because they would also burn out. The Core 2 still has the same Intel SMBus Controllers Conflicts with the input/output IO Range 10C0 - 10DF. These of course run the South Bridg…
