After working on a system trying to install Adobe Photoshop 6 I found several reason for this system to have a verity of issue. At some point earlier this year the customer ran Windows Repair on a System that had IE 7 which was the first issue before Microsoft made the repairs necessary for it to run well on an XP SP2 system. I ran Dial a fix (Thank you this saved the day) and Belarc yesterday and was able to repair the IE6 and now running the system with IE7. To begain with they did not have Windows installer 3.1v2 however the system did have .net 2.0 and .net 2.0 SDK. IE7 was in Windows but clearing most of the KBs were just here and there. After making install…

Clearlooks is the default theme in the GNOME desktop environment used in many Linux distributions. I've found a Windows visual style that brings over the Clearlooks visual style to Windows XP. http://schmoove.deviantart.com/art/ClearLo...ows-XP-18591720 You extract it to "C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes\ClearLooks\". PS. To load third-party themes in Windows you need a patched uxtheme.dll file. * UXTheme Multi-Patcher 5.5 * msstyles FAQ

i uninstalled a few items early this morning and was rushing and not paying proper attention. a box i have never seen before appeared.it mentioned Z:\ on the top line and below that some suggested commands to enter. something like svr system ( these may not be quite correct) anyway i entered the suggestions and it rejected them, so i just closed the box and went to bed. when i tried to start up my computer again it wouldn't boot up. i reckon that i have directed whatever process starts the computer up towards a non existent Z drive instead of drive C. luckily i had partitioned my hard drive and was able to install windows on the D partition. i tried all day…

Windows XP Service Pack 3 RC2 Build 3311 is available for download. Remember that this is a Release Candidate so you may not want to install this on a machine you regularly use. Treat this as a beta software. Download: Windows XP SP3 RC2 Build 3311

NEVERMIND THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN SOLVED Windows XP + SP2. If I type the commands in C:\ it does not work. C:\>net 'net' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. I accidently deleted all my Kodak Easy Share photos to the recycle bin. The recycle bin has since been emptied - is there a way to retrieve them? I have downloaded Undelete Plus but can't seem to find all the photos as they were in folders. I think I have uploaded these folders to a flash drive then placed in documents but can't get them to open.

Who all has tried the betas or RCs of SP3? Now that Windows XP SP3 has been released to the public as RC1, I've downloaded and installed it on my server after doing a clean install. So far I've been very pleased with the results so far. I've noticed that Windows boots faster than before. Fewer bars go by while the OS is loading. Unfortunately I have not yet been able to see any changes from the three new added features. The frontpage article goes into a brief explanation of these three new features. Network Access Protection (NAP), Kernel Mode Cryptographic Module (KMCM), and Microsoft's new "black hole router" detection which is part of their hardening…

Dear Forum: As I have too many os updates and should re-formate my hard drive and re-load windows, which would be too lengthly solution, I have trouble shutting down windows. Whenever, I load windows xp pro and should it for any length of time and try to shut down, the pointer turns to the owl glass form and just sits there for too long of time. I solve the problem by hitting the reset button and after windows loads, I can shut down in the normal amount of time. Does anyone have any idea of this problem and how to solve it. Thank you, Dick Smith energize@bellatlantic.net

I've been researching this after seeing this on a few computers lately. Here's what I'm referring to: A disk check has been scheduled. Windows will now check the disk. Cleaning up minor inconsistencies on the drive. Cleaning up 985 unused index entries from index $SII of file 0x9. Cleaning up 985 unused index entries from index $SDH of file 0x9. Cleaning up 985 unused security descriptors. Now here's what gets me. It's happened on both my server computer and my primary. It's also happening to other's computers as well. So I've been trying to get to the bottom of this. One MSKB shed some light. http://support.microsoft.com/kb…

First of all I say Thank You for all those who have tried to assist me with all of my error messages. But this morning my computer completely crashed and all I get now is that screen that shows Windows cannot load normally and it gives you all of the options. None of the options work as everytime I reboot over and over I get the same screen. I even had to try a couple of times just to access the BIOS as I kept getting even a keyboard error. This all happened after I got another error messages that I could not load devmgr.dll and I downloaded procmon.exe and cleaned out the prefetcher and temp files and rebooted. Then everything went haywire. The computer no…
