Many of us have anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-rookit software to protect us against viruses, spyware and rookits. Anyone know if there is any anti-DRM software that scans the disk for any DRM-infected files? It doesn't have to, but it would be nice if it could clean the DRM-infection too. If it has real-time monitoring, it could warn you too; "You have tried to send Alice a DRM-infected file. Are you sure?" "Alice have tried to send you a DRM-infected file. Are you sure?" "You have tried to share one or more DRM-infected files. Are you sure?" "You have attempted to download a DRM-infected file. Are you sure?" "You have attempted to upload a DRM-infected file. Ar…

G'day folks, have a question about Avast settings. How do I make Avast send 'infected' files automatically to the Chest without needing confirmation from me. What I mean is, that currently when I run a 'Thorough' scan of all files, when it detects a virus/trojan/etc, I get a dialogue box waiting for me to click on 'Delete', 'Move to Chest'. What I want it to do is that when it finds something that it gets sent direct to the chest without waiting for my input. The reason I'm after this functionality is because I ran a thorough scan on the weekend before I go to bed so that I don't have to wait around for it to do its thing, but if it finds something it sits th…

Leo and Steve Gibson look at Vista. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGZYzWvm_MM I actually think Steve does a great job of proving that he knows very little about computer software and he cannot be a reliable or credible source. He says Windows Defender is an "anti-virus". I just thought that was pathetic. A little basic research will show you it is anti-spyware. For confirmation you can check Wikipedia. Another thing Gibson said was that 64bit Windows was more secure because of the drivers being a clean start... It makes me wonder how people can consider a person of his "intelligence" to be a reliable source.

Ran the latest version of rootkit revealer and these 2 entries showed up. Ran after updating XP today with the latest MS fixes. Do they belong to rootkit revealer. or to MS? I have ran RKR on 3 computers and this shows up on 2 of them. One is an Intel, dual processor and the other is an AMD Athlon 2000. They did not show under the previous version of RKR, so I don'y know if they have been there all along or if the new version checks deeper. Anyone else ran into this? I have been trying to find a good program that wont cost me an arm and a leg.... I know I have a zlob on my laptop, but I cant get rid of the darn thing. also hello to everyone I havent talked to for awhile. To give more detail on my problem it pops up the yellow caution about malware and brings up the IE to savetheinformation.com and has two shortcuts on my desktop. I have tried XoftSpy SE, Ad-aware, zone alarm, and some others in attempts to get rid of it. Oh I did Vundo, and Smitfraudfix. I guess now I will prob end up posting a hijack this log shortly....

Hey, Recently my girlfriend sent me a message on MSN saying: Hey look what i did etc, then "she" sended a file to me called demon.zip. Nod32 directly removed it as being a trojan/spyware. Now i did some search on her laptop but the only thing i could find was the demon.zip file, but there must be something which is using the MSN to send it to all her contact persons.... i did a full scan with NOD32, spybot search & destroy and hitman pro but couldnt find anything.... only some cookies. did anybody experience this and how did you deal with this? regards, AccessIT

I'm still evaluating this new release, I'll post some thoughts on it later. I am interested to hear what everyone thinks about it. I will be keeping the previous ("2006") Ad-Aware version install here on Lunarsoft.net. There was a later version that was a MSI install, however if users with malware are unable to use MSI, this clearly will do them no good. The version kept here will hold older definitions; however the installer will be much more dependable.

OpenDNS makes the Internet experience safer, faster and smarter for you and everyone using your network. Safer - OpenDNS can identify and stop sites trying to phish (steal) your personal information or money. The OpenDNS phishing protection works with all operating systems and browsers, and complements any other security measures already in use, such as a firewall and anti-virus software. Faster - Most DNS servers on the Internet are slow. Your computer uses DNS every time you visit a website or send an email, so you want DNS to be blazing fast. Two things make DNS really fast: a big cache and a good network. We have both. Not to brag, but OpenDNS caches are really…

Countless people hate MySpace for so many different reasons. This is one of the top sites parents want to block. The problem is that there are many different urls and most routers want the full domain name to properly block the websites. Here is the complete list for blocking MySpace: au.myspace.com blog.myspace.com browseusers.myspace.com ca.myspace.com cf.myspace.com classifieds.myspace.com collect.myspace.com comment.myspace.com creative.myspace.com de.myspace.com en.myspace.com events.myspace.com favorites.myspace.com fr.myspace.com friends.myspace.com forum.myspace.com games.myspace.com groups.myspace.com home.myspace.com i.myspace.com ie.m…

Microsoft on Tuesday took the wraps off what it calls version 1 of its new Malware Protection Center Portal. The site offers a malware encyclopedia for investigating threats, downloads of Microsoft's latest antivirus and anti-spyware signatures, listings of the top threats and other tools. In addition, Microsoft has begun publishing a Security Intelligence Report that provides an in-depth look at software vulnerabilities. The effort to create the site comes as part of Microsoft's initiative to make its security division more open and public-facing. In addition, the company is encouraging customers to upload samples of files they think are infected, which could aid in p…

Bitdefender 8 Free Edition that I had for a backup scanner expired on me (the download page didn't say it was trialware, but it is), so I decided to try out ClamWin - Clam being the only other free AV without realtime protection I'm aware of (since 2 virus shield can interfere with each other, I won't risk having more than one installed, even if one shield is disabled). I have yet to complete a scan with it, it seems to be pretty slow. Any thoughts?

So the last time I had to use this forum was quite a long time ago, and it was because my ZoneAlarm Pro found some stupid registry key that it said was a keylogger, but no other files. Just a registry key (I was going to get a different firewall, but my girlfriend actually paid for another copy as soon as it expired ). Anyways, today it apparently autoscanned and when I woke up I saw this: RegistryKey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\ST6UNST #1 I just started laughing my heart out, yes, an uninstall entry alone is definitely a keylogger! I checked all of my processes (I do this every night) and I know what all of them are, and…

Well, security is difficult to compare. It depends on what version you use, and if you compare the default installation or a hardened system, etc. Sometimes security limits what the user can do, and interferes with ease-of-use and productivity. It depends what you want to be able todo with the operating system. An minimalist operating system without a network stack is probably very secure. It can vary greatly depending on which Linux distribution you use. Actually there is a Linux distribution named "**** Vulnerable Linux", its actually intended to be as insecure as possible, in order for the user to learn how to secure it. It's not meant to be used though, its me…

"But if you look closely at the actual report (PDF), you'll see that this claim that Windows is "Most Secure" is based merely on Microsoft's relative speediness in patching security holes." Quoted from: http://www.tuaw.com/2007/03/22/fud-windows...most-secure-os/ I read that article and I'm not convinced that Windows is the most secure. Besides, how many people have Vista? The MacOSX system on the other hand, has updates that bring any Mac built in the last 8 years up to date with the lastest version as long as the user has purchased the major system upgrades such as Jaguar, Panther and Tiger, and they still run better than they ever did. (Limited of course, by pro…

Tarun, wouldn't running adaware and spybot cause problems when scanning the system? such as them finding the same file, then one will delete it and the other wont be able to find it to delete it anymore... if its not a problem, wouldn't running both at the same time bog down the system considerably? And I always run Adaware twice, because it seems to pick up some on the second run.. or has that changed lately?(i haven't had a spyware problem in over a year thanks to this forum mostly). )corjello(

I did have Outpost Pro, but I'm switching to Comodo now, until the firewall tests have been completed. After using it, I must say I really like it. Its faster on my system, the UI is nicer, easier to use, its full-featured, its free, and mor importantly, Outpost Pro wasn't able to pass one of the tests in the Comodo Parent Injection Leak Test Suite: http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/cpi...&country=GB

okay, this is by far the most annoying thing. Everytime i open up firefox, i get a pop up in internet explorer. And everytime i play counter-strike/open it i get another IE pop up. I have both SpyBot, Ad-Aware SE, ive run 3 scans in the past. I also carry Windows Defender. Im running a scan with that right now and i will post results in a few. I Immunized with SpyBot, and everytime i scan with SpyBot and Adware, the same mal-ware comes up(6-7 of them). (i dont use IE). I fix the problems and delete all of them along with the tracking cookies that come up, and yet the next day they seem to come back. suggestions? MA TriX

These are 3 tools that I use. You can use them once, then harden the system, then uninstall them. Increased performance, privacy, security. Since you don't run them in the background, they wont use system resources. Remember that its a very good idea to make a system restore point before though. xpy Small tool which disables the default threats of a Windows XP installation. Besides disabling Windows and some of its components to communicate with Microsoft servers, xpy improves privacy settings and your system’s security. xp-AntiSpy The xp-AntiSpy is a little utility that lets you disable some built-in update and authentication 'features' in Windows. First off, should I get other users of IE on this PC to convert to Firefox? My major worries are that they will need a page that uses ActiveX, or that doesn't display properly. In the meanwhile, I have installed IE SpyAd, but I noticed something. In order to block more Adult sites, he points to; http://www.smartin-designs.com/ But the site doesn't work anymore, does anyone have the file that was there, or an equivalent? Finally, I am in need of a decent Ad blocker for IE. I am currently using Adblock Plus and Filterset.G Updater for Firefox, but I cannot find a decent alternative for IE, everything seems to be to ruthless, and there is no option to manually right-c…
