I basically aim to slam the pc with all kinds of infections and then practice removing the faster and identifying how they work.

Since there seems to be a growing body of opinion that Windows Defender is not much good, are there better freeware alternatives? The only other free progs I'm aware of that offer realtime spyware protection are Spyware Terminator and Arovax Shield. Spyware Terminator has a very questionable pedigree which makes me hesitate to trust it, plus I've seen some reviews that were not good at all. Arovax Shield Beta had some problems that made me reluctant to try it, especially since there were reports of damage to the Registry when it was uninstalled. Is this fixed in the release version? Are there any others I don't know about, and are they safe? Is this type of protecti…

Following Tarun's recommendation, I removed Grisoft's AVG Antivirus from my computer and replaced it with Avast to see which is better. I've only had it on my computer for about 15 minutes, but I can already tell that it is better than AVG in so many ways! The GUI is excellent; it looks very nice, but isn't flashy or full of useless visuals (AVG, with all due respect, looks like crap) It is easy to use and configure; all settings are where you would expect them to be (with AVG, some options are in one place, others are in another... not very user-friendly) There is a simple and an advanced view, depending on how many features you are comfortable messing around with It of…

  6. I'm using it now actually, it seems to be doing really well, anyone else tried it? http://home2.ca.com/servlet/ControllerServ...00&Env=BASE EDIT: After some more testing I discovered that the Firewall is very weak. So I tried ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite, but that has a weak anti-virus. So I thought I tried Avast Pro, but the two conflict. So I'm back to what I had before, CA Anti-Virus and ZoneAlarm Pro!

My Father was on a web site getting some tests done for his job and all of a sudden a BIG RED FIST started blinking!!! I wasn't too worried about it, thinking it was the site and something in their program...........BUT......... then he told me that this has been happening on his Hotmail account for quite some time. He says it will blink about 3 times of trying to read email and then it will go away and let him through. Now I'm worried. Has ANYONE had this problem, and what in the world is it and how do we get rid of it? Thanks in advance TF

I primarily use a custom package that I save to a Cleanup folder. It contains Peperfix, VX2Finder, TheNotifier (used to verify the results of VX2Finder), ADSSpy, SpywareBlaster, CCleaner, CWShredder, Ad-Aware (and I install the defs I pre-downloaded using my InstallDefs.bat file), Spybot S&D (and all three of the updates), Autoruns, HijackThis, Dial-a-fix, LSPFix and UPHClean. Personal methods: I have a number of tools I use to diagnose and repair systems. It generally takes an hour to two hours, depending on the speed of the machine and how critical the infections are. From start to finish: Peperfix, VX2Finder, TheNotifier (used to verify the results of VX2…

Hmm... I've installed it and scanned. I'm quite Impressed on the Improvement they have made since the last time I heard of somebody having trouble with it. I have not had any trouble nor... problems here. I like the real-time protection and they have fixed that dang Memory Usage issue which I hated to the littlest time that I noticed it Scans are a bit too fast for me though even in Full Scan. Have to keep my eye on that . Took around 15min. Hope some of you consider in testing or trying out if not already Spyware Terminator BETA

  11. Ok, Tarun help me out here man. I will post a log when I go over there Sunday. Funny how my router is letting me on here unless you changed your website around abit for me to pass on by. Hope you can help. *The CCleaner team already tried to help but he says everything is ok in the HJT log. Lets see what you can do... The logs I had at Ccleaner forums were removed. Sorry to whoever might wanted to take a look at the last current log As far as my GF Mom has told me they are still getting pop-up Ad's while browsing through Myspace, Searching up in Google and any other site. They use Maxthon and still pop-ups get through. *The CCleaner team said I should try to ins…

Still reeling from its customer search privacy scandal, internet service provider America Online (AOL) once again finds its reputation under attack, this time having its client software labelled badware by a non-profit group backed by prominent names in IT and education. The AOL 9.0 free client software provided to AOL users has been labelled badware by StopBadware.org, an organization supported by Harvard and Oxford universities, as well as Google, Sun and Lenovo. According to StopBadware.org, which describes itself as an internet neighborhood watch campaign, the free version of AOL 9.0 has earned the badware title because: it installs additional software without t…

My firewall's antispyware updated, scanned for the hell of it, and it found only a registry key of an mIRC trojan... I'm wondering if this may pose a threat, or if it was just the remains of something that once was? Haven't even noticed any different processes running on my computer lately, everything is the same.

When I run HJT and save logfile I can't read the log because it's saved with a file extension my computer can't read. Infact the icon image is something I've never seen. With Windows98 how can I change the file extension on the HJT Logfile to make it readable? I wanna post on here to get help, but I can't open to copy and paste. Thanks.

Hi, Im not completely sure where to post this. But please move it if its in the wrong section Well, here's problem 1: I have recently change to broadband. And since then I havent been able to access a site which I used to be able, would the ISP be the cause of this? #2, is software related problem: I have symantec antivirus. Which I update. And I have like 7 trojans or so on my computer, which are safely (or not) in quarantine (sp?) and I cannot seem to actually get them off my system.. Besides leaving them in quarantine.. Any help?
