I haven't posed here in ages (hope to change that soon!), but for the moment need some recommendations on good parental logging software. My mum wants to know what sites are being viewed by my younger sister, and she knows that my sis can delete history and enable private browsing mode with ease! Any recommendations for some good, free parental logging software, that records everything viewed on the internet? We use Firefox on the pc, and prefeerably looking for software that has basic password protection to turn on and off. Many thanks!

ZeuS, SpyEye and Palevo are infamous families of malware. These types of malware are spread mainly through drive-by downloads and phishing schemes. They are so-called Trojan horses which are designed to steal credentials from various online services like social networks (such as Facebook, Hi5, Yahoo, Netlog), online banking accounts (phising), ftp-accounts, email-accounts and other. They are part of botnets that are estimated to include millions of compromized computers. These types of malware are notoriously difficult to detect or to remove from any computer. Even if a user has an up-to-date antivirus program installed, computers still can become infected. Because …

I've tried the Windows 8 developer preview. It is not yet in beta, so when trying out a developer preview one should keep in mind that the final version will be better. I am very disappointed. I was looking forward to Windows 8, because it will introduce support for the ARM architecture which I think is exciting, because this could cause ARM to challenge x86 on the PC. I don't have anything against the x86 architecture, Intel or AMD, but it would be nice with some alternatives, to have a choice, to have some competition. Nowadays x86 have 64-bit support, but POWER, SPARC, Alpha and other architecures had 64-bit support way before x86. x86 has been extended with new …

Chances are it's not, or at least could be stronger, more secure. Now that you've created a password nearly impossible to break (and remember), thought about storage, encryption - a passphrase? A topic of this nature can be boring so I'll get to the point - if you need help with creating stronger passwords, or maybe you've considered a passphrase but didn't have the energy to think up anything too clever, here's 2 free tools that may be useful in the creation and storage of passwords & passphrases. PWGen for Windows KeyPass Password Safe Note: A password for a bank or school is more important than IMDB in most cases. Strike a balance between too few and too m…

Those of you who have been using Tomato firmware on your Linksys WRT54GL know all too well that the developer has not had a release for quite some time, sadly. There is another version of Tomato available that seems to work quite nicely. TomatoUSB NoUSB Std - best one for the WRT54GL. Anyone else using it?

Hello, Please remove this if it's on the wrong forum. But I couldn't find anywhere to post programming questions.. I am writing a MDI interface chat client, and need some 'concept' help with the coding, in regards to creating and managing new channel and dialog windows withiin the MDI parent. This is my plan so far.. When needed create the new PrivateChatWindow form, then sets it's Name property to pmw#UserName, so when a new string is received from the socket, I can loop through the list of created Private chat forms and match the username who sent the message with the username in the pmw#UserName dialog window. I would do the same with the channels. So far this…

A lot of people will occasionally run a few small applications as part of a general maintenance to keep their computers clean. Since I know my systems are always clean I just run CCleaner and defrag. I was considering writing an article on the Lunarsoft Wiki about general practices to help keep your system performing well. Before getting into this I felt it would be best to hear what else people do when they fine tune/tidy up their computers. How often do you defrag and perform disk cleanups? What other tasks do you do when you're getting ready for this maintenance? How often do you perform said tasks? Do you do them manually or automatically (scheduled)? If you could …

I don't use any antivirus software myself because these days I use Linux, and even back when I used Windows I managed to get by without any antivirus software (not to be attempted by lusers, noobs and mortals) due to being computer literate and security conscious. However, I would like to know about antivirus software for when computer illiterate friends and relatives ask. It is difficult to pick antivirus software because there are many variables to take into account, such as detection rate, false positive rate, resource usage, price, etc. Commercial antivirus software are made to appeal to the broad masses of end-users, and on a subscription-bases business model …

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703467304575383530439838568.html The IE8 design team had planned on adding the best privacy features available, but the advertising executives wanted to track users. 'In the end, the product planners lost a key part of the debate. The winners: executives who argued that giving automatic privacy to consumers would make it tougher for Microsoft to profit from selling online ads. Microsoft built its browser so that users must deliberately turn on privacy settings every time they start up the software.' Please use Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome.

I found an open source Windows registry cleaner on Launchpad. https://launchpad.net/lilregcleaner I've never used it. Anyone have? It seems interesting that it is open source, then everyone can see how it works, and exactly what it does, and if it had an big and active community it could use that for good Quality & Assurance to make sure it is effective and safe.

Download here. Flash Cookies, otherwise known as Local Shared Object (LSO), are cookie-like data files that are stored on a user's computer. Flash Cookies are used by all versions of Adobe Flash Player. Cookies by their design constitute privacy concerns because they store data which may be retrieved by people or programs that are up to no good. Ordinary cleaners do remove regular cookies but do not remove these Flash Cookies, giving the user a false sense of security. Several services even use Flash Cookies as a data storage to reinstate traditional cookies that a user deleted, which is called 're-spawning'. So even if a user gets rid of a website’s tracking cookie…

I discovered this totaly by coincidence, I tried this out and I saw a video of this at Matt Rizos , site remove-malware.com, http://remove-malware.com/antimalware/anti-malware-reviews/hitman-3-5-3-review/ It's made by SurfRight, Here is their site, http://www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro it uses its own crusader engine and the scan engines of Avira, G-data which utilizes these two engines (Avast and BitDefender ), Prevx, and Nod 32 and A-Squared. It is not a realtime defender ( so no cpu usage only during its scanning), but a second opinion and a good malware destroyer. It is not freeware has 30 day trial. So its not going to be everyone's cup of tea money wise ( $19.…

Ok, so I said I would do a write up of my initial response to windows 7 and here it is. I'll start with the bad... 1. DO NOT LET WINDOWS INSTALL YOUR DRIVERS. Caps are lame, but you need to pay attention to this. The first time I installed windows 7 I booted the computer, enabled auto updates and let it do its thing. The bad thing about the way it updates is that unless you click on the "number of updates" link in the auto update page you don't actually know what its installing. I went from having a fully functional machine to having my lan card not work(installed wrong driver) and my video card being crippled(installed OLD driver). 2. The verification process fo…
