  1. I have been trying to fully remove Spyware Doctor and some remaining traces of a McAfee program (most likely a free sample) for some time now - These 2 programs show up in Hijack This scans (try each time I scan to remove but no result when I tick to remove them) and the Spyware Doctor will not remove from Windows Explorer - None of these are paid d/loads so they can only be freeware samples or free d/loads from earlier times - They are not listed in Add/Remove in control panel so I cannot remove there - Is there a remover for McAfee like there is for Norton ?? I only use Avira as a…

  5. I'm trying to repair my IE-6 by uninstalling a possibly corrupted SP-3, and I can't figure out why my XP box won't let me. It's listed in my Control Panel add/remove programs list, but when I try to remove it, the Software Update Removal Wizard goes through its routine, then ultimately ends up with 2 messages that say "The System Cannot Find The File Specified" and "Service Pack 3 was Not Uninstalled". Belarc says its there, and System Properties says its there. I tried 3 options suggested by the Microsoft Support site (including the "hidden $NTServicPackUninstall$folder"), and all 3 options ended with the same "Cannot Find The File" message. Dial-A-Fix tools hasn't…

When I try to use Dial-a-fix to Repair/Reinstall IE, I get an error that tells me "IESETUP.DLL is missing IEAccessSysInst". I get this same error when I go to C:\WINDOWS\inf , click on ie.inf, and hit "Install". I am running XP SP-2, and trying to recover files IE that were probably corrupted by a nasty trojan, Brastk.Exe. I got rid of the trojan, but cannot successfully download updates from Windows or MS. Since my IE-6 came pre-installed, I don't have IE on a CD, and I haven't been able to locate a copy of IE6. I'd rather not do a full system recovery. I've tried other "fixes" and tests but none have solved the problem. I can connect to the net with Firefox, but…

  10. Hi, I am a new member here (but have been lurking for a while) and want to first thank everyone for some really great info. Next is my question. I've seen the wiki page for the http://wiki.lunarsoft.net/wiki/Product_IDs and it was really helpful. I'm in the process of trying to find out who formatted and reinstalled Windows XP (potentially erasing critical data) on a computer at my place of business. The in-house IT person conducting the investigation reported: "The product ID for Windows XP installed on XXXX was 76487?640?XXXXXXX?XXXXX. This product ID corresponds to the product ? Windows XP Pro Service pack 2 ? and was a retail purchase based on the first…

Dial-A-Fix gets to 'Fix SSL/HTTPS/CRYPTSVC' and won't go beyond. It succeeds in Stop Srvices but that is it. When I tried to reinstall IE7 I got a message saying - unable to verify integrity of files needed to install - make sure cryptography service is running on this computer So, obviously cryptsvc has some kind of a problem I can't use the Windows XP installation disk for repair because the OS has been updated a few times and is no longer the same as when installed. How do I make sure cryptsvc is actually running? How do I get dial-a-fix to keep going? (past cryptsvc) How do I get IE reinstalled? (I need this because our government (Canada) web site …

  16. Hello All ! I have a Toshiba TE2000 that has a new HD and a legal Product Key. I've learned about the various "Known Windows XP CD Labels" from TakTech.com, but still am unable to determine which particular disk I need to reinstall XP. Obviously I need XP Pro. I've tried installing two different WXPVOL_EN (corporate volume) disks and the installs refuses the Product Key, so I assume this is the wrong one. And I can't seem to find the "SP0" OEM disk (WXPOEM_EN) anywhere. (And I've been looking for days....) Rather than continue with trial and error, I'm looking for a way to use the information on the Certificate of Authenticity and determine which CD Lab…

I have 2 things that have recently occured on my Windows Xp computer. First my "Folder Options" has disappeared from the Control panel as well as the menu listing for it under the Tools drop down menu. Secondly when try to run "regedit.exe" it says that "Registry editing has been disabled by your administrator". I'm the Administrator and I didn't do that. A pc tech at our local computer store recommended I run dial-a-fix. I've downloaded it, but haven't run it because I'm not sure what to do with it.

It appears my total lack of IT knowledge is hampering any effort to correct my issues with my Home version of XP, so my next foolish question is, I'm able to get a Legal version of XP Pro and I would like to know if it's possible to install it over my Home version without having to format my hard drive first, as there many files I can't afford to lose. Many thanks for your time Skynard

  20. Started by Skynard,

I recently installed a program which I thought would help with errors that possibly I created for myself, this was a registry cleaner program ( I have an aversion to trying things, without knowing the consequenses in advance ""Big Mistake ""). Not wanting to blame anyone in particular for my mistakes I attempted to correct them on my own (not necessarily a good idea where computers are concerned). After installing the program and running it I was not comfortable with the results, therefore decided to remove it, whereupon it started to remove what I thought were program parts, not so!!!!! This program removed virtually everything from the "Start>All Programs" section f…

  22. Greetings, This is my first post here. The issue is with the built-in wireless in my Dell Latitude D600 laptop. The built-in wireless is Intel PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3A Mini PCI Adapter. The operating system is Win XP Home with SP3. The symptoms are that the wireless networks are detected, but intermittently. Sometimes I see the router of the people next door, and down the street, but not mine only 3 meters away. I would say 25% of the time, it sees the distant routers, and not mine in the same room. When I do see the router, it shows maximum signal strength. When I try to connect, Windows attempts, then fails after some time. The Intel software also fails. I have d…
