Hi, After having a major crash and the computer would barely work but it ran. I ran the SP2 repair (I think that is what it was called) and things came back up fine. Than I realized that window updater would not update and it caused some problems with Quicken. Quicken ran fine but when I tried to update information from the bank I got a denied message. When I went to quit Quicken windows installer wanted to uninstall it. Luckly it wasn't working. I went out to a microsoft discussion group and found a topic called Cannot install updates - no error code in Windows Update which was what I was experiencing. They told me about dial-a-fix. But since I am now having pro…

I also have the auto update problem after a repair from the Win XP Pro SP2 cd. But I have other problems as well. I should start by saying that my system is a French one (French version of Win XP and mainly French versions of major programs like office). Dial-a-Fix did not fix the update problem, and in fact hung the system when trying to carry out 'DllInstalling shell32.dll' in the Registration Center. My problems started when I added a new 500 Go Sata2 hard disk to my system and had trouble initialising it. Up to this time, my system had given no trouble for many months, and has been used primarily for development of a data base application under Access and for web …

My word what a wonderful program. I've just finished a 3 week email exchange w/MS regarding update problems...haven't been able to download, much less install updates for the past 2 months. I say finished because their final answer was to "just reinstall Windows." Argh. I just downloaded and ran dial-a-fix (suggested on the IOBit forum) and then sucessfully downloaded and installed 12 WinXP updates. I'm still erroring on Office 2003 and dot-Net updates, (I need to email the log) but that's for tomorrow. I sent a small offering your way...wish it could have been more, but not right now. You can believe that I'll be I'll be referring folk to your site. Dave

I am trying to reinstall ZoneAlarm on my computer a PC running Windows XP Home. Having found several advices to run DAF, I did install and run it with Repair Permissions tool. After rebooting, only the administrator accounts still showed up on the Windows Login screen. It gave me a cold sweat, but I soon realized that the limited accounts were still present. It took me a little bit longer to figure out why the did not appear anymore, neither at login screen, nor in the 'User accounts' fron the 'Control Panel'. Finally, I did find them still listed in the 'Computer management' under 'Local Users and Groups'. The limited accounts were not even disabled, but th…

I had a total disaster with MS updates. 77 of them would not work. I got error codes 0x80080008. I spent hours researching. Somewhere it said try "Dial-A-Fix". DAYUM, IT WORKED FLAWLESSLY. And you only ask for $5.00 or more. How can MS with their billions in the bank and their DOZENS of pages of how to fix anything be so grossly incompetent? My hat and appreication are off to you. You are a genious and should take over MS right away. Tell Ballmer to move over !

hi! was referred to dial-a-fix by microsoft tech. Running XP with svc pack 2. Problem started about 2 months ago. All updates from the microsoft site fail and auto updates don't seem to be working either. With help from microsoft tech, been downloading and installing updates manually in safe mode. I ran a windows update log for them and they sent me this with a longggg email of instructions on how it may be fixed. This problem occurs when one of the following conditions is true: • Some files are corrupted in the %allusersprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader folder. • BITS is not correctly registered on your computer. Hi. I found Dial-A-Fix mentioned on the Microsoft website so I downloaded it last night. I am using Windows XP with SP-2 applied. I have been having problems getting 3 of the last critical updates. I found one fix of stopping SpyBot's Teatimer that got me out of one problem (getting Win Updates site to work), but now I still can't get the updates, they will not download. I ran Dial-A-Fix tonight then looked at the WindowsUpdate.log file. The error in that file is 0x80242008 for all the updates. It says it is FATAL. Is it?? What can I do next to get these updates? The updates are KB917344, 929969 and 933566. I did download the separate files for them yesterd…

Notes about this log: 1) "->" denotes an external command being executed, and "-> (number)" indicates the return code from the previous command 2) Not all external command return codes are accurate, or useful 3) Sometimes commands return 0 (no error) even when they fail or crash 4) If an error occurs while registering an object, please send an email to: dial-a-fix@DjLizard.net and include a copy of this log DAF version: v0.60…

First off All - Thank You. After changing the antivirus-software on my daughter's PC (from Symantec to BitDefender) Windows refused to start, I had to do a repair istallation. Afterwards, Internet Explorer was behaving very strange, I could fix this, but Windows Update wasn't working anymore. Researches on the web brought 1000 clues to me, either they did not work or I did not want to try them out because I did not understand what they really do. Your program did the trick in 5 minutes: Setting a restore point, running Dial-a-fix, "repair windows update" - reboot - everything worked fine again!! So there is only one question left: a search for rootkits with BitDe…

Hello All, If you use the free Belarc Advisor, it shows all you patches and such and what is needed. When I run scannow, I come back and check Advisor. KB902400 will show reinstall every time. Look it up on the MS site under it and you can see what 400 does. It is a security update. However, I also notice my computer runs faster without it. However, I have old stuff: 1.6 P4 400 MHz buss 1 Gig of PC133 DFI NB-72SC Motherboard Newer XFX 5500 graphics card with 256 meg of DDR2 ram This last helped a lot. Anyway, I just want all of you to know about this and it will happen. BTW: The new IE rollup KB933566 really messed up this computer. I have been wo…

  21. I have googled and come across a lot of talk of issues like mine, and some talk about corrupt IE6 and others malware on the computer. Ouf software tech has checked out the latter extensively and there is no malware. My notebook is a toshiba mx50-m5, xpsp2 about 2 yrs old. The issue is intermittent. "IE has encountered a problem and must close" I should also say I keep emptying out my "temp files". MY IE 6 is: App Vers. 6.0.2900.2180 Mod Name: comctl32.dll Mod Ver: 5.82.2900.2982 Offset:00014784 I have tried this fixundefined I had no issues with "sfc /scannow" and went on to the remaining steps. Hello there, I was recomended by someone to see if DAF could solve my problems. I am using v0.60.0.24. It was suggested I just hit the Double Check Mark and go through everything, but the program seems to hang when it is "Stopping CRYPTSVC..." I wait for a seemingly long time, then just exit the program anyway. Thanks for your time

I have been going to the Microsoft Update site to download updates manually because I am having various problems with Automatic Updates. It worked until a few days ago. Now it seems to get 'stuck' during the search for updates then displays an error page with [Error number: 0x8DDD0009] I then did some research on google and found this software dial-a-fix which I installed and tried (version 0.60.0.24). I checked the 'Fix Windows Update' box and clicked go. When it finished I tried the Microsoft Update site again only to come up with the same error code. Could anyone give any tips on how to resolve this problems?

When I used the previous version of Dial-A-Fix, I used to Flush SoftwareDistribution and register dll's and on a regular basis. When I downloaded the new version and clicked to Flush SoftwareDistribution, it caused a multitude of problems with my pc's settings and I had to do a System Restore to correct the problems. When I tried to register dll's, most of them couldn't be registered. Purge SFC doesn't work either. My Windows XP Pro disk came only with SP1 and when I try to perform an SFC scan, it can't find the files it needs. I downloaded SP2 a long time ago and led the program to the file in my pc but it wouldn't accept it. I created an SP2 DVD and it wouldn't ac…

I work at the Geek Squad in Best Buy and first off wanted to thank you for letting us use your software. I am new to it and had some trouble after I used it. I started with repair permissions, then flush softwaredistributions, and then hit the double check for everyhing. After the computer rebooted it came up and said that there was an error in the RPC and the the system had to shut down. So I went into the services and checked for RPC and one was set to manual and one was automatic. I didn't change anything. Any ideas? I'm running v.0.60.0.24.
