  2. Looking for some help with an issue I'm having. This motherboard has -always- caused me issues through rebooting at the worst times and such. I've got two-sticks of 512 RAM in the motherboard right now, and I believe one of them to be faulty that or I've made a mistake in my setup. For the longest time the PC would restart, but I removed the one stick of RAM so that I was running only 512 total. It did -not- restart on me once but obviously I'm a gamer, and 512 just wasn't cutting it for me so I got tired of it and placed the RAM back in. Now I have the issue again. The motherboard has 4 memory ports, is there a certain order I must put them in? Any help …

Back from the grave for some hardware help On my current dimension 8400, i have SATA cables for hard drives. I have an old ATA/IDE hard drive that I want to hook up. I bought a converter to go from ata to sata but i ran into a problem. when i plug the converter in, i have three ports available. One is the new SATA ribbon plug in, which I hooked up, but the other two are the new SATA power source and the old ATA power source (the converter doesn't cover this or plug into it). Do i need to plug in the converter's power AND the ATA HDD's power or just one, and if just one, which one? Thanks for the help. So, basically two or one? and which one? )corjello(

I'm building a new rig, and the case is the only thing that I'm kinda worried about. Cooling wise. Link: Ultra Black Aluminus ATX Mid-tower It has 2 120mm fan ports, and I'm concerned it won't be adequate cooling for the rig I'm building. Any thoughts? The reason I'm going for this case is because it's a builder's dream. Look at it.. it's absolutely gorgeous lol. All the cables go behind the mobo tray, harddrive cables behind the hard drive trays, it's amazing. But yeah, the cooling concerns me, with only 2 120mm fans. Here's my rig. Link: XFX nForce 680i, C2Q q6600, 2048mb RAM lol It's a package deal xD Link: EVGA GeForce 8800 GT Superc…

This is a poll about the layout of a computer case. How do you like it? What do you prefer? If you could have it your way, how would it be? The drive bays are in the front of the computer case. * 5.25" are for CD/DVD drives, etc. * 3.5" are for HDD, floppy, etc. Shall we assume a ATX midi-tower? Note: this is not about your current computer case that you have. It's about what you would prefer...

Where do I start? My PC doesn't have a wireless modem, and I know my internet speed is 512kbps (Tesco broadband), and thats it. I live in the UK. If people could guide me on what to do, and what to buy, I would really appreciate it. Also, will wireless work with Linux (Ubuntu is what I'm thinking of).

:hello: I am trying to get my brother's older PC on my wireless router so he can have internet access. His system is operating on Windows Millennium. I purchased the wirelss adapter and it is compatible with Windows Me. After I install the software for the wireless adapter and try and open the program I get the following error message: "Wusb11b has caused an error in Kernel32.dll". I've tried everything short of reinstalling windows. I've also updated windows, checked for spyware and did a disk cleanup. I've removed the driver and reinstalled it several times and still I get the error message. I tried the adapter on my newer PC and it does work so I know it's functiona…

This has happened twice - the first time (which I didn't see), when my sister woke the computer up from sleep mode, it was showing only half of the login screen. She couldn't do anything except punch the power button. Later, it booted up normally when I tried it. The second time it happened was several days later, at startup - the first thing I saw was a bright horizontal line across the middle of the screen. Then the bottom half of the usual text appeared below this line, above it was black. I turned it off and back on 3 times before it started normally. This was a couple days ago, it hasn't happened again (yet). I'm guessing this is a hardware problem, which is wh…

Cheers, and can I get any amount of RAM I want? Also, how much should I get? I've got 2 spaces in my PC for RAM, should I get 512 now?

What are your opinions on e-machines, specifically the one listed below? My sister is thinking about buying one to replace her current computer, which is practically dead. She uses the computer infrequently and does so for function only, primarily for e-mail, documents, and occasional web browsing. No games or anything like that. For her purpose, is this machine a decent one? Thanks! emachines Intel® Celeron® D Processor 356 Computer with 17" CRT Monitor and HP Color Printer (16" viewable image size, .25 dot pitch). CRT. I'm just going to copy and paste the support email I sent which never got a reply. Summarizes problem etc. I'm having some trouble with transfer rates on my computer and not being able to connect to certain applications. This is primarily over messenger services. HTTP downloads go at a normal speed, but transfers over messengers go extremely slow. I tried plugging my computer back into the main cable modem and I no longer had this problem. I am also unable to connect to certain online applications when going through the router. All of the computers on the network are wired connections (There are three computers connected). In addition, I also get randomly disconnected…

G'day folks, just thought I'd share this with you as an option to wireless home networking. My setup up at home allows me to have a wireless network, but I was having some grief for a while (connections kept dropping out) and decided to go back to a cabled network. After having installed new carpet in the house I didn't want to have the cable running across the floor in our loungeroom where we have our system's setup (at this stage only 2 PCs) and was racking my brain and re-reading/re-installing my wireless setup, but to no avail, still kept dropping out. I then decided to google (Australia local) for networking solutions and come across this little gem: Lin…

Hi, Awhile back "A month ago" I tried to run my CPU without any Thermal Paste and that was a mistake. Took it to a computer store near our area and they fixed it. Well, partly. Seems that the BIOS can't detect my CPU temp. Anymore which is hightly understandable. It has been said that sometimes BIOS doesn't always help as it can display wrong Temps. The guys at the store said when I tried to power my PC on it slightly damaged a few pins on the CPU. I was lucky they said. I've learned from my mistake. My B-Day is coming up on Saturday "I'll be 20" and I wanted to know how to apply Thermal paste on an A Socket AMD Athlon Xp CPU. I've google and I've read only to…

Yes I know, that guy again. After I got back on the air I figured I'd best do the prerequisites before running DAF again. D;L'd the memory checker and HD checker. Ran both. Mem was fine (need to run more to get to 5x) and HD passed w/ no problems. Then ran the Windows \tools\disk checker\fix problems\check unused area. When I came home from shopping had a blue screen of death. "Can't find SAM hive", then later, "can't find necessary DLL files" (this several times). Booted the install CD, dropped to REPAIR command line. Dir of root showed expected directories. Dir of \windows - "access denied". ACCESS DENIED ? I don't think so! But I've been wrong befo…

Hi, My brother is buying new RAM for his MoBo and he offered to give a 512(PC3200) Stick to me. I was wondering would it work on my MOBO. Link is provided below and I can already tell you that my MoBo doesn't support Dual Channel. It's just one stick hes giving me though. I already understand by putting in a PC3200 stick on a supported DDR333 MoBo will just down grade to a PC2700. My MoBo That one stick is from a Dual Channel kit he bought off NewEgg.
