I'm always building computers for work and friends, what would be the primary must have (utilities, anti-V, anti-spy etc.) essential list of programs and what would be secondary?

Are there any codec packs to work with MP 10 as a few files i have in there do not play.

i uninstalled ZoneAlarm Pro and trying out the Outpost Pro 30 day trial. i found ZoneAlarm was a little buggy and it also messed with my icons in the task tray. so now i'm configuring my settings on Outpost and i cannot figure out how to make my ports stealth. any ideas? everything else seems easy as far as setting rules and all that, definitely easier to setup then Norton.

Hey, Ive been hearing its hard to remove all norton products from a comp once its been installed and not even add/remove takes them all away. Can some1 talk me through removing it... and recomendations on new security items. Respect JMac

What do people think of it? Got it, seems quite good, have you lot tried it before? EDIT: Just got rid of it, didn't seem that good after all, though feel free to discuss please.

Ok, so im taking a big step here, im chucking out Norton. Its giving me problems and i cant stand it any more. Ive found this to help remove all the crap that was installed from it. Any other suggestions? other than running ccleaners reg cleaner about ten times? )corjello(

doesent install i get no error just like the comps froze but its not

If I go to c:/docs and settings/all users/application data/microsoft/widows defender/definition updates there is a file there called updates with nothing in it. I have successfully updated the defs via windows updates this afternoon, so do these go in the definitions folder and if so what is the updates folder for?

i had a thread here about my antivirus not updating but it did so nevermind.

it seems as tho Gmail has a chat service. so far it works pretty good. it's very basic but good enough to have a quick chat with one of your Gmail contacts.

So, it seems that all the popularity of CCleaner has gone to MrG's head, or at least to the head of his financial advisors. Comments? I personally haven't used CCleaner that much , using an older version, but packaging the Yahoo! toolbar seems unnecessary, + makes me a little uneasy

When i run the install program and i accept the terms and conditions i get sumhing about product key invaild please contact microsoft i have had my comp for 1 year no problems since now. Windows XP came preinstalled on it. it says on ms page contact reseller but i bought it from a person my dad knew and he told him it was (BRAND NEW). i guess not though can any of you help me out Also had a problem trying to install Windows Connect. Also Can you install Windows Home over XP Pro as it came with Pro but the identify sticker on the side of come says HOME and its a different product no.???

When I am online and want to read a pdf doc, foxit will ask first if I want to run the application instead of just reading it. Any ideas?

I have ie6. want to take out the old, and put in a new-hopefully this will fix my problem. anybody know how to do it? do i take out the old first, or is it done auto when reinstalling? any links?

I have recently added a piece of freeware to the Lunarsoft.net Freeware list, which was prompted by a chat between other members and myself in the chat room a couple of weeks ago. I have just downloaded, but not really tried out to it's full potential a similar program to Google Earth. This one is called World Wind and has World Wind Moon bundled with it. It has been created by the guys at NASA but is now open source. World Wind allows you to see the world in detail just as Google earth did, but with the addition of World Wind Moon, you can now explore the moon in the same way. If any of you have kids or grandkids, I can totally recommend the following software. A great painting prog. with hundreds of stamp and sound additions. I have 4 grandkids and have to fight them for this! It's hard to believe it's free. I used to have Artrage prog. but this is SO much better. The magic button has rainbows, bricks, grass and more.
